It was as I lay in bed (scrolling) with my toddler napping beside me thatI learned that Sally Kempton has left this earthly realm. She is one of the great Teachers of our time, in the tradition of tantra and bhakti and in Life.
I was overcome with emotion at this news last week, Sally is the first teacher who has impacted my life so directly that has left the body. And honestly, I was a little surprised by my response.
Like so many others, Im sure, I got her books off the shelf, and let her words wash over me once again. I've been sitting with the Sri Gita Gita mantra in the early hours, again like so many others around the world who were also moved by her presence.
The memory of the last training I did with Sally have been flooding back, Im transported back 5 years to a London yoga studio and the profound field for meditation that she created. As my husband reminded me, t was on this trip to London that we connected, so in a way, I have Sally to thank for that as well.
In case you haven't had the total joy and pleasure of resting into her offerings, I want to point you to two of my personal favourites.
Doorways to the Infinite:
The Art and Practice of Tantric Meditation
This book is our direct line as modern day yogis into the sensual and sublime, personal experience of Union, based on the original tantric source, Kashmir Shaivism's Vijnana Bhairava. Sally has the rare gift of transmitting the mystic teachings in a way that is grounded while maintaining the magic.
Awakening Shakti
The Transformative Power of the Goddesses of Yoga
This is where the goddesses became real for me & through coming into relationship with them we get to experience their embodiment. Sally's voice can drop you into the natural state of meditation within moments & I highly suggest getting the audio version as well as hard copy as her voice lives on through these recorded guided meditations.
We are so blessed to have known Sally, to witness her sass and fire, her transcendent wisdom and her raw sharing as a woman on the path. I'm beyond grateful that the teachings are immortalised and bringing new meaning and preciousness to all the paper books I treasure.
